Yes, my headphones went flying.

They say variety is the spice of life, but when it comes to growing as a streamer, especially on , is that saying true?

When I first started out, I wanted to be a variety streamer simply because I didn’t want to get bored of playing the same game over and over. At the same time, I wanted to show my viewers that I’m willing to play all kinds of games so I could have more people enjoy whatever content I put out and maybe make new friends along the way.

After about two and a half years of streaming…

Raised $5,550 recently for the Starlight Children’s Foundation during a charity stream.

Ever since I first got started as a stage performer more than 20 years ago, I learned a lot about giving back to society through my mother’s charitable efforts. You see, after my mom retired from performing on stage due to a freak horseback riding accident back in 1996, she started producing her own stage productions, from full-fledged musical productions to musical revues covering various well-known Broadway and West End musicals.

Every single one of those stage productions she put on have all benefitted a charity organization of some sort, from houses to hospitals, all to raise awareness of certain…

Being a successful streamer is a lot of hard work. I mean, I don’t consider myself a successful streamer yet as I’m still on this ever-enjoyable, yet admittedly stressful journey, but as you can see from my blogs, I’m still growing and learning as I go along.

One valuable thing I’ve learned in order to grow as a streamer is scheduling my streams. Over the past year, I’ve tried to stick to multiple schedules I’ve made, but believe me when I say that as easy as it may sound, it’s even tougher to follow through and remain very consistent, especially…

You may know these people. Goblins, imps or the more commonly associated term to describe them, trolls.

As streamers and content creators, we are constantly faced by these bullies who hide behind their monitors, keyboards or mobile devices while they attempt to lay waste on us by destroying our moods. It totally can’t be helped when you realize how many of them exist in cyberspace.

It got me thinking about the late professional wrestler Hana Kimura who, at the tender young age of 22 and with a very bright future ahead of her, committed suicide last year after being harassed…

Just me directing my viewers where they are when I’m streaming.

The best thing about live streaming is the interaction between the streamer and their viewer.

Ever watch your favorite TV show from the comfort of your own couch? Maybe a game show or a talk show which involves a host of the program? If you do, you’ll probably see the host interacting with you by welcoming you to the show, introducing their guest(s) and outlining what to expect from the show for the day.

But while they are addressing you on TV, you can’t reply back to them, can you?

This is why I love live streaming. Not only am…

Humble beginnings streaming directly from my PS4.

I think it goes without saying that the misconception everyone has when they first start out as a streamer is to stream the popular games because that’s where they can easily rake in as many viewers as they can in order to grow their channel and following.

From Fortnite to Overwatch, League of Legends to Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, Among Us to Phasmophobia, Apex Legends to VALORANT, the list goes on and on and on.

While these games are definitely great to stream, they’re not exactly the best games for growth when you’re starting out as a streamer. …

There are times when an opportunity is presented to us and we continue to question and ponder whether or not it would be a good idea to seize that opportunity or instead let it pass by without doing anything to give it a shot.

Recently, I had a chat with a friend who told me about how a mutual friend of ours has decided to start streaming on Twitch from next month onwards and this friend of ours is a well-known musician in a community we’re a part of while also being an avid gamer and cosplayer.

During a time…

Before I begin explaining, let me just explain this thing called “raiding” on Twitch.

When a streamer ends their stream on Twitch, they have a choice to raid another streamer who is currently live. How a raid works is that the streamer will find a streamer they want to raid and after making their decision, they will bring their community over to the streamer they’ve decided to raid so they can give them another streamer they could watch.

Raiding other streamers is a great way to make new friends and build your own community as a streamer. Though I’m not…

Hello, everyone!

If you’ve just stumbled in, welcome to my first blog post here on Medium!

A little bit about myself. My name is Johan Yusof (I go by the handle JOHANYUSOF85 everywhere on social media) and I am a stage performer with 20 years of experience. Due to COVID-19 putting a halt to most of my stage performing activities thus causing my gigs to either be cancelled or postponed, I have now focused much of my attention as a streamer and content creator on Twitch.

I’ve been streaming on Twitch since 23 October 2018, first directly from my PS4…
